Why is this machine more suited for bottles with a wrap of more than 85% ?
a) Consider Standard Wrap Labeling
With standard Wrap Conveyor labeling, the labeling surface of the product passes the peel plate where the label is ejected and a label begins to feed. During this feed the round product continues to move away from the label dispensing point and spin between a wrap belt and a backing plate. The labeling surface of the product can be up to 6" away from the peel off point of the label by the time the end of the label has been peeled off the roll. At this point we rely on the stiffness and the natural curl of the label to insure the trailing edge of the label remains level with the leading edge of the label.
With standard Wrap labeling the product is in contact with two tangential contact points; the Spinning Wrap Belt and on its opposite tangent the Stationary Backing plate. With only two tangential contact points there are a number of factors that can lead to a product "tilt" during the spinning and labeling including:
i) A slightly off square base of the product
ii) Imperfections or labels that have stuck to the product conveyor
iii) Imperfections or worn areas of the Backing plate and/or the Wrap Belt
The above factors lead us to recommend the standard Wrap Method of labeling for Jobs where the leading and trailing edges of the label are sufficiently far apart as to make it difficult for the Human eye to be able to notice the likely variations in label height from the leading to the trailing edge of the label. In general this turns out to be Wrap labeling where the labels wrap around the product not more than 85% or the products circumference.
b) Bottle Capture Device Labeling
With Bottle Capture Device Labeling the product is captured with its labeling surface within a fraction of an inch from the point where the label is ejected. The bottle capture device hold the product by two vertically mounted idler rollers and presses it against a Driven rubber roller that has a speed synchronized with the label dispensing speed. The point of where the label is applied to the product remains within a fraction of an inch from the label peel off point for the duration of the label application.
With Bottle Capture Device Labeling the product is in contact with THREE tangential contact points; the Spinning Rubber Roller and two oppositely mounted Idler Rollers. With Three tangential contact points the "tilt" during the spinning and labeling is virtually eliminated.
For the above factors the Bottle Capture Device Labeling is our recommendation for 95%+ Wrap applications.
